Paw and Wing is a brand and animation project focused on protecting New Zealand’s native birds by raising awareness about the impact freeroaming cats and dogs have on wildlife. The project encourages responsible pet ownership through simple actions like microchipping pets, keeping cats indoors or enclosed, fencing yards, providing enrichment, and desexing pets to reduce roaming. The final outcome was a playful cel animation with natural colours, bold visuals, and a dynamic story designed to feel fun, approachable, and educational.

Research
ResearchResearch showed that roaming domestic pets kill over a million native birds each year, including vulnerable species like kiwi and penguins. While 72% of people recognised roaming pets as an issue, many were still unaware of the full environmental impact.campaigns.

visual development
I researched different colours and landscapes to see what would work best for my animation. I decided on a landscape inspired by New Zealand because it makes the birds look like they are in their natural environment. I used natural colours and patterns to make the setting feel familiar and realistic, helping the birds fit into the scene naturally.
Logo development
I started my logo development by sketching a range of ideas and exploring different ways to combine a paw and a wing. After creating several concepts, I chose the design that worked best and refined it further. I experimented with different colour options and decided on natural green tones, as they fit the wildlife theme of my animation and connect well with the natural environment. The final logo is simple, clear, and easy to recognise while representing the animals and landscapes featured in my project.

I gathered and tested reference videos to improve the animation and storytelling, making adjustments throughout the process.
